This year we are starting our fall season with the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival in Berryville, VA. This will be our first year here, but we were lucky enough to get a booth in the Ruritan building (Booth R14-15). No. We do not take preorders for festival pickup. All festival inventory is available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis once the festival begins. We do this to ensure that everyone attending the festival has an equal opportunity to purchase our products. Because our most popular products can sell quickly, taking preorders could result in certain items being sold out before the festival even begins. We recommend shopping with us as early in the festival as possible to ensure you get exactly what you are hoping to purchase, especially if you have specific colors in mind. Can I order a small accessory to go with my product and pick it up at the festival to save on shipping? No. We do not offer festival pickup for small accessory orders. For festivals, we bring a limited selection of our main products, including our electric spinning wheels, electric yarn winders, and band looms. We do not bring our full selection of smaller accessories because the number of products, variations, and quantities would make festival inventory extremely difficult to manage. Small accessories purchased through our online store are therefore shipped directly to you rather than being held for festival pickup. This also helps us keep festival sales organized and allows our staff to focus on helping customers at the event. Why can’t I order small accessories? We do not offer small accessories for festival pickup because we cannot reasonably bring our entire accessory inventory to each festival. Our online store carries many small accessories and replacement parts for each of our tools, with some accessories coming in custom colors. Bringing enough of every item to a festival would require us to manage a very large and complicated inventory on-site. For festivals, we instead focus on bringing our main items: electric spinning wheels, electric yarn winders, and band looms, allowing us to provide a manageable selection while keeping our festival inventory organized. If you need a specific accessory, the best option is to order it through our online store and have it shipped directly to you. Can you set aside X item in X color so I can purchase it on the last day of the festival? No. Festival purchases are first come, first served, and we are unable to hold items for later pickup. If you have your heart set on a particular product or color, we recommend shopping with us as early in the festival as possible to give yourself the best chance of getting exactly what you want. We cannot set items aside for pickup later in the festival because held items may not be collected. When that happens, the item may have been unavailable to another customer who would have purchased it. Keeping festival inventory available for purchase throughout the event gives everyone the fairest opportunity to buy. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep festival sales fair and manageable for everyone! Can I order it at the festival and then have it shipped to me? Our festival inventory is separate from our regular online inventory, so festival items cannot be purchased at the festival and later shipped if you decide not to take them with you. If you know you would prefer to have an item shipped, we recommend placing an order through our online store. I have a product in need of repair. Can you fix it at the festival? We are unable to perform repairs at festivals. We do not have the complete set of tools, equipment, workspace, or time needed to properly diagnose and repair products on-site. Please email support@daedalusspinningwheels.com so we can review the situation and determine the best course of action to repair your item. I have a product in need of repair. Can I drop it off with you at the festival? No. We are unable to accept products for repair drop-off at festivals. Keeping track of customers' previously purchased products that need repair would add significant logistical complications to an already busy festival environment. We also cannot guarantee that we would have the tools or workspace needed to properly assess the item. Please email support@daedalusspinningwheels.com so we can review the situation and determine the best course of action to repair your item. Can I bring my product for evaluation at the festival? We are unable to evaluate previously purchased products at festivals. Our festival setup is focused on demonstrating and selling our products, and we do not have the workspace, tools, or time needed to properly inspect or diagnose individual products. If you are experiencing an issue with your product or would like to have it evaluated, please email support@daedalusspinningwheels.com. After receiving your email, we can determine the appropriate next steps and, if necessary, arrange for the product to be evaluated through our normal support and repair process. We are always happy to answer general questions about our products and demonstrate products available at the festival! Alright, my favorite people, I have some super exciting news. I actually kind of feel like Santa’s little elf, to Adan Akerman's Santa Claus. That’s right, I’m about to say what you think I'm about to say. WE HAVE AKERKATES!!! Yes, I shouted, and I will ask you to do the same. Pass the word along. Akerworks AKERKATES are in production exclusively for Daedalus Spinning Wheels. We are excited to announce that we have coaxed Adan into making us Akerkates, which will allow for the continued sales of kates exclusively through our shop. While it saddens us that Akerworks has had to step away from the fiber side of their business, we are thankful that we are able to help keep at least part of it alive. Each quarter, we will be receiving a predetermined amount of AkerKates with both 4 Shaft (Standard) and 2 Shaft (Extra Long - Magpie) in Cherry, Maple, and Walnut to sell in our online shop. We will divide these shipments into 3 groups and space out the release, one at the beginning of each month. They will be first come, first served, and when they sell out each month, they will then be gone until the beginning of the next month. The flyer shoulders and guides now use an open metal bars instead of enclosed loops, which help achieve both of these goals. This new feature has actually surpassed our expectations, with testers noting how easily and fluidly the yarn gets onto the bobbin. In addition, it uses the same bobbins as the Starling Standard Flyer, giving the spinner approximately 3-3.5 oz of capacity for bulky yarns. While this capacity may not be tailored to the extensive production of art yarn, it is just right for the hobbyist. Whether you are experimenting or testing out fresh ideas that you may wish to explore before embarking on a larger project, the Starling Art Flyer gives you options not previously available to this model. We are pleased to announce that after lots of gentle encouragement... well, maybe some of us on the team were not so gentle, Becca will be providing fiber again! Right now we are starting with some 1 oz silk samples but with some more time we hope to get Becca dyeing again. It's been a long time coming. With our recent move of Daedalus HQ, we now have more space to work and we've added on a couple new members to our team. This has been such a dramatic change for us and we are so excited by how this move will open up more opportunities for the continued growth and innovation for Daedalus Spinning Wheels. For those who haven't been with us since the beginning, you'll know that Dave and Becca's journey into fiber started with dyeing yarn. After they began their dyeing business, Spotted Ewe Fibers, they realized that Rebecca would need to learn to spin to dye top-quality fibers. Intrigued by the mechanics behind handspinning—notably the nuts and bolts of e-spinning—Dave soon followed suit. He knew his decade-long experience as a drone designer could help him build a lighter, faster, more responsive e-spinner. Team Daedalus is home and unpacked, but man, our heads are still reeling from all the weekend's excitement. This was our second year sponsoring the Junior Spinning Competition, however this year we offered a new Dove to the skilled Junior who wins.
