Starling V3
Out of all the electric spinning wheel brands I tried, the Daedalus was the best and most powerful. My Daedalus Starling can do it all - laceweight to modestly lumpy art yarn with ample bobbin capacity. This espinner is light and quiet, but a sturdy and durable tank of a machine that easily put up with my production level spinning. Daedalus wheels have the most control - the speed controller lets you control the speed down to the single percent and start/stop time, with speed and time numbers you can refer back to instead of an unmarked mystery dial like other wheels. The brake system allows to easily do small adjustments to tension, and the Irish/bobbin-lead option makes quick work for plying. Bobbins themselves are incredible as the bearings inside make them glide on a lazy kate for smooth plying and winding into a hank.
My only 2 snags - I wish the wheel default came with 4 bobbins (though I would have purchased more bobbins anyway) and the nagging voice in my head saying I should have gone with a Magpie for beast mode capacity.

Reunited! A few months ago, during a crazy overseas move my beautiful Starling got broken by the airline. I didn’t want to check it, but was forced to, and all of our checked bags will never be the same. We were rerouted to two different countries on the way, and craziness ensued! I was heartbroken when I opened her case! I emailed Dave and Rebecca, and was able to ship it to them a few weeks ago. They fixed it so perfectly, and yesterday she came back all shiny! I missed her so much, and I’m so thankful for them doing such a great job, and even saving me money along the way. She is my very favorite wheel, and I was lost without her! Thank you Dave and Rebecca, for a wonderful wheel, and great customer service!!

Magpie
I am the proud owner of both a Starling Mini and a Magpie and I love these wheels. They are lightweight and portable, so you can spin practically anywhere; easy care and practically maintenance free. They spin reliably, keep a steady speed and are easily adjusted. The soft start/stop on Magpie is a game changer for me; because of my arthritis, it's often difficult to start and stop rapidly. This makes it so much easier for me to get my hand position correct in time to spin. The versatility of both wheels is wonderful. I can spin anything from fine to chunky to art yarn. Being able to switch the Magpie from Scotch to Irish tension is a real plus.
Dave and Rebecca's customer service is impeccable. They really care about their customers and go above and beyond to keep you spinning in the rare case there should be any problem with one of their products. They are all about quality. Because of space and physical limitations, I chose an espinner as my first wheel. I'm so glad it was a Daedalus.

Starling V1/V2
I am really enjoying spinning on the Starling. The design is very sleek, and the color options make it so much fun. The detail-oriented execution makes it near-perfect – with rubber dampeners around the motor to make it the quietest e-spinner I’ve seen, a swiveling maiden for super easy bobbin changes, and a very easily adjusted scotch tension mechanism, you won’t be searching for perks. It’s smaller in size compared to other spinners on the market, but has fantastic bobbin capacity compared to its footprint. It’s also solid but very lightweight, which gives it maximum portability.
The Starling makes smooth and consistent yarns with ease – the speed dial is super easy to adjust gradually and precisely, the sliding guides allow you to fill the bobbins evenly, and the direction switch allows you to click it on and off easily without adjusting the speed. The power port is tucked conveniently out of the way, allowing unimpaired access to the necessary buttons and knobs on the front of the spinner. Without a foot pedal, you do have to keep the spinner itself easily in arm’s reach, but this has not been an issue for me. I often spin on my recliner sofa with the spinner on the footrest, but this device is so light and easy to move around that I just set it on my legs instead. It’s a lot lighter than the cat that’s usually on my lap – I barely notice it’s there.
The Starling is capable of spinning a very wide range of yarn types, from beehives to lock-spun yarns and super-bulky to lace weight. So far the thinnest singles I’ve had on it are 40wpi, but I am nowhere near maxing out the RPMs on this baby – spin as thin as you want, it will keep up!

Blackbird
I LOVE my Blackbird! Obviously you can see for yourself how sleek and sophisticated it looks, so I want to tell you about the rest. It’s clear from the beginning that this spinner was well thought out and executed with a level of precision and attention to detail that isn’t often seen. It’s similar in size to other spinners on the market, but has fantastic bobbin capacity compared to its footprint. It’s also amazingly lightweight, while also being sturdy and “solid”-feeling. I have a lot of back and joint issues, and can easily carry the spinner and all its accessories (plus fiber, of course) without making myself sore.
The spinning is smooth and consistent – the marked speed dial makes it super easy to adjust gradually and precisely, the sliding guides allow you to fill the bobbins evenly, and the foot pedal gives a handy start/stop without having to adjust the speed or reach the power button on the spinner itself. The Blackbird is capable of spinning a very wide range of yarn types, from beehives to lock-spun yarns and super-bulky to lace weight. So far the thinnest singles I’ve had on it are 40wpi, but that’s only with the speed set at around a 7 on the larger whorl – it could easily handle 80wpi singles for me if I adjust to the small whorl.
In my opinion, this spinner has just one weakness. In order to change bobbins, the brake tension has to be loosened in order for the knob to be pulled out and the flyer removed. It would be nice to not have to re-adjust the brake tension when changing bobbins, but it’s definitely a small inconvenience and pales in comparison to all the perks.

I love my Blackbird!
Spinning on her is a pure pleasure for me for several reasons:
Weight: I can move her easily and carry her to spinning events with battery, bobbins and fiber without strain or stress.
Speed: Speed is infinitely variable and minutely controllable making it easier to spin a consistent yarn. Of course, you could also control the speed to spin an inconsistent art yarn, if you wished. And she’s FAST! Tension is the same, extremely flexible.
Control: My control is better than it has been on any other spinner, spindle or wheel I have used.

I love my Blackbird e-spinner. It is lightweight for travel and can spin bulky to fingering yarns with ease. Daedalus Spinning Wheels has been great to work with. They took the time for help me get the right adaptor for the portable battery I already have. I am so happy that I have already ordered the Starling!! Thank you David and Rebecca!!

I truly love my Blackbird! I never knew spinning could be THIS fun! I had problems on my more traditional wheel with continuous treadling. I felt like I was always starting and stopping due to knee, and foot fatigue. Now that I have my Blackbird, I can spin uninterrupted, for much longer periods of time. My production is WAY up and my consistency is amazing! I encourage you to support a small business entrepreneur. The attention to detail on their machines and attention given to their customers, is top notch! My Blackbird arrived beautifully packaged, with LOTS of extras that should keep me spinning for years and years. I truly love my new Bird. I hope to build my flock with Daedalus Spinning Wheels in the future!

From start to delivery and follow-up, it’s been a great experience....I LOVE my Blackbird- serial #2! It is a blast to take to spinning days or guild. It causes quite a circle of observers.. and it’s quiet, giant bobbins, portability is amazing. I’m pretty tickled with my improved consistency on it and I think it would be great teaching new spinners, also❣️

I have a traditional wheel but also have diabetic neuropathy in my feet and it's become difficult for me. I did some research before purchasing this spinner and Dave and Rebecca always got right back to me and patiently answered my questions.
