Penelope
Penelope is a robust band loom made from a beautiful blend of Wood and 3D Printing with added Carbon Fiber and Precision Steel Linear Rods for military-grade reinforcement of critical parts. Band looms are a hybrid between an inkle and rigid-heddle loom, and are capable of weaving narrow bands with the use of a heddle or tablet/cards. Penelope is perfect for weaving thin scarves, belts, shoe laces, camera/purse/guitar straps, mug rugs (coasters), and more.
We designed Penelope to be as versatile as possible. For instance, it has both a ratcheting warp beam as well as a rear clamp. The warp beam can hold around 5 yards of warp and separator, but using the rear clamp instead will allow an infinite length of warp draped off the back. So far, we’ve enjoyed testing it using tablets as well as a laser-cut wooden heddle (or two)! It can be firmly planted on a table because of its generously sized rubber feet, but it is still just the right size when it needs to be in your lap. And just like our line of spinning wheels, Penelope was designed to operate with the same smooth precision, as well as having the reliability to last a lifetime.
Curious about the name? We’ve named her for Odysseus’ wife, Penelope. She wove daily and then nightly unwove her work to delay suitors from pressing her into marriage while Odysseus was on his Odyssey. That's true love, and a witty woman, two things we love over here.
