Hi everyone! I am excited to be able to share with you all Dave's latest creation the Starling V3/V3FP LACE FLYER! This specialized flyer takes after the Falcon flyer to allow for faster speeds and lighter take up.
A Lace Flyer for Starling?
Compared to the original Starling V3 Flyer (now known as the Standard Flyer), this will allow much higher speeds (over 3000 RPM) and very light take up. This configuration is ideal for cobweb/gossamer spinning, as well as short staples like cotton that need a very high twist rate. 200 wraps per inch (WPI) is not uncommon in skilled hands.

Speed + lighter tension at the cost of bobbin size
To keep the system light and responsive at these higher speeds, a more narrow flyer span was required. We estimate 4+ oz capacity for fine singles.
Starling Lace Flyer VS Falcon
The Starling V3/V3FP Lace Flyer is a modified version of the Falcon Flyer. Several dimensions were modified to accommodate the Starling chassis, and the gear ratio was tweaked a bit. But the revolutionary aerodynamic coupling is unchanged, allowing for ultra-low take up, and making the system polite and friendly to use at these high speeds.
The Falcon still holds the record for a docile 4000 RPM spinning wheel and is a serious beast when it comes to these types of jobs. But the Lace Flyer for Starling V3 will give the user a very similar experience, albeit not at light-speed like Falcon easily manages.
Starling V3?
The Starling V3/V3FP Lace flyer can be used with both the Starling V3 and V3FP! It uses the same drive belt, hook tool, and tension belt as your existing flyer.
Scotch Tension
The Starling V3/V3FP Lace Flyer can ONLY be used in Scotch Tension. Please do not use this flyer in Irish under any circumstance, not even for rewinding.

Compatible with both the original Starling V3 and the V3FP. It uses the same drive belt, hook tool, and tension belt as your existing Starling V3 Standard flyer.

This flyer is an Add-on only. All Starling V3FPs come with the Standard Flyer only.
