Resources to Get You Started with Penelope

ree

The Penelope band looms from the first shop update are arriving to their new homes. We've seen a lot of great commentary and questions on our Facebook Group and Discord Group so I thought I'd take the opportunity to go over some of the information that's been asked about.

Books and Resources

We've listed several books and other resources at the back of the manual. We also have a few additional ones so here is our complete list so far of recommended books.

Yarns

There has been a lot of chatter about what sort of yarns to use. You can use a wide variety of yarns from commercial weaving or knitting yarns and handspun as well as different types of fiber content from cotton, linen, silk, wool, etc. To figure out what you like to use for different purposes we highly recommend sampling. Here are some of our samples and what yarns were used.

Standard 4 Hole Tablet weaving with 8/2 Cottolin. This yarn is a bit sticky/grabby so turning the tablets isn't quite as smooth as 8/2 cotton.

Interested in weaving shoelaces? We recommend Lizbeth Thread Size 40. The best place we've found for this is The Lace Museum which offers a wide array of colors and a buy 6 get 1 Free deal.

If you have any recommendations please fill out the form on our Penelope Community page. Happy Weaving!
